Display and other electronics
Is there a manual for the display?
Yes, there is a manual for the display. You can find this here in Dutch, English and France. Press and hold the middle button on the display for 5 seconds to turn the bike on and use the top and bottom buttons to select speed levels 1 to 5. You can switch on the display lighting in the evening by pressing the top button for 5 seconds.
How do I turn the bicycle on/ off?
To switch the motor support and the display on, press and hold the middle button for 4 to 5 seconds. On the older models you can also turn the bike on via a button on the frame.
How does charging work?
A charger is standard with the bicycle. Plug one end into the socket and the other into the bicycle, behind the cover on the frame. The charger has two status lights: Red: The battery is charging Green: The battery is charged.
The pedal assistance seems to stop when I exceed 25 km/h.
If you feel that the support drops out as soon as you go above 25 KM/H, the speed limit is probably not set correctly. You can easily adjust this yourself. Page 5 of the manual explains how to adjust the speed limit. Feel free to set the limit at 40 KM/H. The engine will then continue to operate (continuously 25 km/h) until you go faster than 40. Which hardly ever happens. This way, the engine will no longer fail while you are enjoying your ride.
Battery and range
What is the battery's life-cycle?
The average lifespan of a battery is approximately three years or around 500 charging cycles. Keep in mind that the range of a battery may decrease thereafter. However, replacing the battery is easily done. You can do this yourself or have it done by a bicycle repairer. You can order a new battery online from us.
Is there also a stronger battery for longer distances?
No, for the moment we have the battery type of 36V - 8.7Ah for the MONTREAL and NEW YORK models. The BOSTON and BROOKLYN have a 36V - 10.5Ah battery. However, we do not rule out adding a heavier battery if technically possible, or an extender for longer distances. If you sign up for the newsletter, we will keep you informed of the developments.
Can I cycle in the winter?
We assume that you will continue to use your bicycle in winter for commuting, shopping, or taking the children to school. Regularly using and charging the bicycle is really good for the battery. It is advisable to park the bicycle indoors in frost. If possible, charge the battery in a heated place. This is faster and your range remains higher.
The range of the battery of your e-bike will have less power in cold than in higher temperatures. It is not much you can do about that, except to make sure you store it properly and charge it regularly or leave it on the charger. Allow for a reduced range of about 25% than at a higher temperature. It can be useful to take a charger with you or to purchase an extra charger for your work.
Are you not planning to use your bicycle in winter? Then make sure you store your bike somewhere where it doesn't freeze. It is advisable to leave your battery at least half charged. Charge the battery occasionally if necessary. This extends the battery life. Riding an e-bike with snow and ice. Cycling on a regular bicycle when it is slippery is no fun, but what about riding an e-bike when it is slippery outside. An electric bicycle is almost always heavier than a normal bicycle. If it is slippery outside, it is wise to have less air in your tires in order to remain somewhat more stable on the road.
How far can I cycle with a full battery?
How far you can cycle with a full battery (the range) depends on a number of factors. It depends on your own weight, the support mode you choose, and the conditions in which you ride. For example, with strong headwind and support position 5, the range is smaller than on a flat windy road and support position 1. In general, you can assume that you can cover a distance between 30 and 60 kilometers. More than enough for daily trips in the city.
How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
You can charge a completely empty battery in 3 to 5 hours. In practice, you hardly ever run the battery empty. On average, the Dutchman cycles about 2.8 kilometers per day. But even if you cycle a multiple of that, you will not reach 30 kilometers every day. So you can go a few days ahead with a full battery.
How do I get the best return from the battery?
Here are some tips to get the highest possible return from your battery.
- FULL TIRES: Make sure your tires are full and your bike is well maintained. The less resistance the further you can cycle electrically.
- FIRST USE: If you take the bicycle out of the box, it is advisable to fully charge it before you start cycling. The first few times, only run the battery half empty and then charge it again. This gives the best return in the long term.
- PREVENT CONTINUOUS CHARGING: The supplied charger conserves energy and your battery. It is not possible to break the battery through charging. But of course, you do not have to charge if, for example, you have only cycled for 10 minutes with a full battery. The bicycle battery does not have to be constantly on the charger if you do not use the bicycle for a while. The charger indicates when the battery is full. Then disconnect the charger from the bicycle.
- AVOID DRAINING YOUR BATTERY: Try to avoid draining the battery completely. This is not only annoying for yourself when you are on the road, but also not conducive to battery life.
- WINTER SLEEP: If you do not use the bicycle for a long time, it is wise to occasionally recharge the battery. The batteries do not drain quickly, but it does not hurt to take a ride every now and then in the winter and recharge the battery.

Which tire pressure should I use?
The correct tire pressure depends on the size and weight load of the tire. This is mainly determined by the weight of the cyclist and the load. The tracks around the WATT MONTREAL and NEW YORK are 25 mm wide (25x622). As a guideline you can follow the following: Ben 60 KG uses 6 bar pressure. At 85 KG, 7 bar, and at 110 KG 8 bar.

Is there a luggage carrier on the bike?
Yes, the frame has mounting points to mount a standard luggage rack. Also look for accessories for a suitable model. However, a luggage carrier cannot be mounted on the WATT NEW YORK and BROOKLYN
Does a child seat fit on the bike?
Child seat in the back
Most child seats are easy to attach to the luggage rack. You can order the luggage rack as an accessory. The Luggage carriers have been specially developed by Weco for the Dutch company Steco and have a carrying capacity of up to 25 kilos.
If you do not want a luggage carrier, you can choose a seat tube adapter from Yepp or Bobike.
Child seat in the front
The MONTREAL uses an Ahead system as a stem. Various mounting sets are available for this. We advise you to also order a stem riser so that your handlebars are higher. That cycles just a bit more comfortable with a child seat. Almost all standard adapters fit on the BOSTON.
Which frame size do I need?
We have 2 frame sizes for the men's bikes: MEDIUM for a body length between 1.66 and 1.85 meters and MARGE for a body length between 1.78 and 1.96 meters.
For the women's bike, we have size MEDIUM cm for a body height between 1.55 and 1.75 meters and LARGE for a body height between 1.66 and 1.85 meters.
WATT bikes are produced for a total weight of 110 kg, the weight of the bike including (17.5 kg).
Is the speed limited to 25 KM/H
The motor provides support up to 25 kilometers per hour.
At the display settings, I see a maximum of 40 km/h. What does that mean? There is a difference between. Yes, one is the maximum speed the engine can achieve (which is limited to 25 km/h in Europe). The other is at what speed the motor supports. If that is at 40 km/h, that means that the engine will continue to provide support until you go faster than 40 km/h, which practically does not occur in practice. Suppose you set the setting to "assist up to 25 km/h", the engine would fail if you go faster than 25. That is not desirable.
So you can set at what speed you want the motor to stop supporting. On default this is 28 KM/H
Does the bicycle also have gears?
No, the bicycle has no gears. We used a heavier resistance of 2.75 in our bikes. This is the ratio between the front and rear sprockets. Also called gear ratio. This means that you can cycle nicely at a higher speed and do not have to pedal hard. The disadvantage is that cycling/acceleration is heavier. However, the electric motor gives you almost instant support, which eliminates this drawback. Furthermore, the engine has 5 positions from +/- 18 km to 25 km pedal assistance. You don't need any gears for that.
Is there a rotation or force sensor?
The electric motor can be found in the rear axle and has a power of 250 WATT. The drive takes place via a rotation sensor (speed sensor) at your bottom bracket. The motor has 5 positions from approximately 5 km to 25 km per hour support. With a force sensor, the motor is controlled by the force on the pedals. With a rotation sensor, the motor is controlled as soon as the pedals start rotating. This gives you more constant support. This technique is also less maintenance-sensitive. For example, the bike does not need to be recalibrated if you want to replace a flat rear tire. Very handy for a city bike.
How much do the bikes weight?
The MONTREAL weighs 17,5 KG
The NEW YORK weighs 15,5 KG
The BOSTON weighs 18 KG
The BROOKLYN weighs 17,5 KG
Can the handlebars and saddle be raised or lowered?
Yes, you can easily set this yourself with the BOSTON models. The saddle can be extended to about 15 cm. With the MONTREAL, NEW YORK, and the BROOKLYN you can raise the handlebars with an a-head extender. Order here
How does the WATT cycle without motor support?
You can also cycle well on a WATT bike if you switch off the engine. Unlike other electric bikes, the WATT weighs only 17.5 kilograms. Furthermore, the center of gravity of the bike is in the middle because the battery is in the down tube. Due to the low weight and the ideal weight distribution, the WATT cycles just like a normal bicycle when you have the engine off.
Where is the serial number?
The serial number can be found at the bottom of the bottom bracket.
Maintenance chain
There are many ways to maintain your chain. But an easy way is to brush away the dirt, like mud and sand, with warm soapy water and an old toothbrush. Then de-grease with, for example, Cyclon Bionet, available at the bicycle shop, biodegradable. Diluted, you can also clean your entire bike of dirt. Then rub dry with a cloth. Then lubricate with, for example, Cyclon dry lube. Apply drop by drop, wipe off excess lubricant with a cloth. Too much lubricant attracts dirt. Repeat this regularly. This way your chain will also last longer.
